A Message from Mr Holden

After a difficult couple of weeks for the community it was good to see Wyvern students return to school full of energy and enthusiasm ready to take on the opportunities that Term 2 will hold. Whilst recent events have caused distress, it is so important that we focus on the needs of the most important members of the community – our students. To that end, I am very proud of our Wyvern staff who have maintained their high standards of care and professionalism in recent times. I am very grateful for the strong support of parents who have shown, in so many ways, a deep commitment and care for the students and staff.

Whilst the allegations relating to the staff member are not connected to the school in any way, I am very aware that parents nonetheless would like to be reassured that we have effective and rigorous child protection policies and procedures. Therefore, the agenda for the P&F meeting this term will focus strongly on this area. The date for that meeting is 14 June at 6.30pm in the Wyvern Hall. The Headmaster, Dr David Mulford and Deputy Headmaster, Mr David Roberts will also attend to answer any questions. In the meantime, I am available to discuss and answer any further questions you may have.

I was delighted with the conduct of our Years 3-6 students who attended the College’s Anzac Ceremony on Tuesday. It was a most impressive occasion and an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice our service men and women, past and present, have made to secure our freedoms. It was especially poignant to remember the 175 old Newingtonians who made the ultimate sacrifice in past conflicts. It was very evident that the significance of the occasion was not lost on our Wyvern students.
