Artist of the Week
K – 2
Matthew Torrible in Year 1 painted a wonderful view of a rock pool remembering the mural Year 1 created for the Library. He added finely detailed crabs, seaweed, starfish and more with watercolour pencil. The final composition was pleasing to look at and showed Matthew’s consistent and careful effort.
James Hewish of Year 2 neatly wove paper strips together remembering the under-over technique. The finished work created the idea of brightly coloured optical illusion.
Years 3 – 6
Aaron Mueller in Year 4 created a junk assemblage sculpture, inspired by the complex patterns and structures of computer motherboards and by the art of Piet Mondrian. Aaron first used painter’s tape to define geometric shapes on a wooden board then applied acrylic paint and used indelible marker to define the shapes. He attached his found objects with nails, horseshoe staples and hot glue.
Wenhao Fan in Year 5 created his “Desperate Miner” sculpture by manipulating wire to create a human figure shape, posing the wire form and then covering the armature with layers of plaster bandages. He coated his figurine with several layers of carefully applied acrylic paint.
