Term 2 – P&F Newsletter

Since our last newsletter in March, Wyvern’s P & F has hosted 5 events; supported a live streamed option for the Music Showcase and recorded our second podcast for the year.  We wanted to extend our gratitude to the Wyvern community for all their support and participation over the past 8 weeks. Here is a summary of our events and an opportunity to thank members of our community for their support.

WOW DINNER
Due to COVID restrictions last year we were unable to host our WOW dinner and finally in late March this year over 230 Women of Wyvern enjoyed a fabulous night out at The Grounds in Alexandria. The venue was stunning and all the Mums enjoyed catching up and making up for time apart. Thank you to the Wyvern community for supporting this event. A special thank you goes out to the wonderful families that donated the lucky door prizes.

  • Amal Dib (Jordan 6D)
  • Michelle Kennedy (Thomas 3P & Max KB)
  • Fatema Khanbhai (Qasim Khanbhai 3H)

In Term 2 we hit the ground running with a number of events, some of which we’d never done before.

LITFEST – BOOK PARADE AND MORNING TEA
Wyvern’s parent community was welcomed back into the school grounds for the first time since COVID for the LifFest book parade, and to celebrate the occasion Wyvern’s P&F hosted a morning tea. Over 100 parents and carers attended the morning tea. It was great to see everyone back on the school grounds and enjoying being part of the school community once again.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC WEEKEND BBQ
Every year, Wyvern’s P&F host a BBQ for students who take part in the Instrumental Music Weekend. We were lucky to have a great group of parents that volunteered to run the BBQ on the day. There were over 130 servings of sausage sizzles, fruit juices, apples, mandarins, bananas and Zooper Doopers given out. It was a big effort and we wanted to thank the parents who volunteered their Sunday to keep our boys well fuelled – Grant and Maria Amado, Fiona Berman, Prunella Blinman, Scott Brunelle, Rosaria Cusumano, Clement Fong, Raylee Hardwell, Caroline Jefferies, Justine Kelly, Aaron and Leo Langman, Allan and Caroline Micallef and Joanna Nicholas.

MOTHER’S DAY CLASSIC – GO THE WYVERN WARRIORS!!!
This year we entered a team in the Mother’s Day Classic for the first time. The event which normally takes place in the CBD was held locally on The Bay Run and over 200 members of our community participated. Our efforts on and off the track were outstanding. The Wyvern Warriors raised over $31,000 for breast cancer research, which was a phenomenal achievement. Our team was ranked first in the country for highest team fund-raising effort.

Our Wyvern boys, mums and families looked fantastic in their black, white and pink and had a wonderful morning. Thank you to everyone that participated and sponsored our team

PARENT INFORMATION EVENING
One of Australia’s top rated parent educators, Maggie Dent, spoke at our parent information evening in Term 2. We were lucky to have Maggie share her insights into the wonderful and challenging world of parenting. We want to thank the senior school for allowing us to use the OBLT space which allowed us to invite over 200 members of our community.

MUSIC SHOWCASE LIVE STREAM
Last week our boys showcased their amazing talents at the Music Showcase and Wyvern’s P&F supported a live stream of this event. The live stream gave families that were unable to attend the chance to share in the event.

PODCAST – EPISODE 2
Throughout the year the P&F will support a podcast recording where we will get to know a little more about the people and programs available at Wyvern. In episode two, our host Stuart Bocking had a conversation with our school counsellor, Campbell Jensen-Robilliard. Mr Jensen-Robilliard talks about the Second Step Program and gives us tips on technology and social media at home for the boys. Click here
