At Wyvern our SRC student body is important to us. We find it benefits all boys in a myriad of ways, which include:

• Fostering a sense of vision and purpose in a friendly K-6 student environment
• Providing all boys with an opportunity to determine and achieve collective goals
• Promoting active, reflective listening skills where considered responses are encouraged
• Application of learning in a context that directly affects our school community
• Linking in with our Citizenship syllabus
• Promoting Social Justice values

We are also very conscious of the asset we have within our Year 6 cohort. As part of this, we have trained our Year 6 SRC representatives to take on an active leadership role. This allows them to help mentor and guide the younger boys, which in turn allows the younger boys to benefit from the wisdom of their senior cohort.

In 2016 we will divide the SRC year into two components. This semester we will focus on Helping our School and our local community. We feel that starting our work in ‘our own backyard’ helps boys gain a sense of responsibility and reinforces the importance of appreciating what we have here at Wyvern. In second semester we will organise an event to raise money for our World Vision Sponsor Child. We will also aim to increase student’s awareness of some of the issues faced by school children around the world.  

Our first initiative this Term was a Book Drive being run in conjunction with Wyvern Library. The Book Drive was for St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School in Marrickville who lost all of their books when their school library burnt down during the Christmas break. 

We are excited by our SRC journey this year and hope to help ourselves and others whilst gaining valuable learning insights.
