A Message from Mr Holden

The recent appalling explosion in Beirut has been dominating the news in recent days. The tragic loss of life, horrific injuries and displacement of so many has been deeply shocking and heartbreaking to observe from afar. We have many Newington families with strong connections to Lebanon and, at this time our thoughts are very much with them.

A reminder that tomorrow and Monday are pupil free days. Our staff professional development will focus on the College’s new strategic direction of ‘Great Hearts’, ‘Inspired Minds’ and ‘Strong Wings’, ‘Strong Foundations’ and how this can be part of each student’s learning experience at Wyvern. We look forward to sharing our initiatives to support the strategic plan in due course.

I hope that you enjoy the upcoming mini break. If you are taking the opportunity to travel, NSW Health posts regular updates; and we request that you keep abreast of what is a very fluid situation. If you choose to travel to an area that is listed as a COVID-19 Hotspot you will be required to follow the advice given by NSW Health.  This advice currently ranges from increased testing and surveillance to monitoring symptoms and self-isolating for 14 days. It is important that all adhere to health and safety protocols to ensure that we keep everyone safe.

Have a good Newington Long Weekend.

Ian Holden

Artist of the Week

Artist of the week, Term 3 Week 4

Inspired by the work of Alexander Calder, Year 2 have created their own brightly coloured sculptures.  Thinking about how they can show balance, the boys used a variety of materials and colour to construct their sculpture without using glue or tape. Congratulations to Alex, Alexander and Qasim who showed fantastic craftsmanship in the cutting, attaching, and weaving of their artwork.
