A Message from Mr Holden

As the term gathers pace, it is good to see students fully engaged in many exciting activities taking place in the classroom. Thank you for your support of the changed arrangements for the last rounds of the Winter sports season. It was terrific to see so many boys participating with great enthusiasm in our friendly internal fixtures last Saturday. The last round of winter sport is this Saturday and again all teams will be based at the Senior School campus. Please note that pickup details have changed and all boys will be dismissed from Wyvern car park. Please see the attached link from Mr Wilson for all details.

NSW Health strongly recommends that people should wear a mask when they are unable to physically distance in high-risk areas such as public transport. Newington is following these guidelines and is asking students to wear a mask when travelling on public transport, including the private bus services. We are also taking the extra step of providing 2 masks to all students in Years 3–12. These have been sent home with your son today. Masks for any younger students in K-2 who might use public transport are available by request through the Wyvern school office – wyvern@newington.nsw.edu.au

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that in Term 4 the College will welcome the new Head of Strings, Ms Adele Ohki to the Senior School’s Music Department. Ms Ohki is an Australian citizen returning home after studying, performing and teaching in Europe and the USA as a violinist for 20 years. We are looking forward to Ms Ohki working with our Wyvern music team and the strings ensembles and instrumental programmes.

WriteOn Competition

The WriteOn competition is the annual writing competition held by NESA open to students across New South Wales. The boys must use a given stimulus to create a piece of creative writing that included but was not limited to a poem, narrative or script. There was an overwhelming amount of entries this year from Years 3-6. The development as a writer that occurs from participating in this competition is immense. I am extremely proud of all our Wyvern boys who submitted a piece into me.  The quality was high and reflected the standard of writing at Wyvern. A special mention to Year 3H student Ren Clarke who submitted an outstanding poem that won a Gold Award for 2020 (Stage 2), a wonderful achievement. See below the stimulus from this year.

Wyvern Saturday Sport Plans – Update for 29 August

Dear Wyvern Community,

Please see slight changes to organisation for Saturday 29th August – Wyvern winter sport. In particular, the new pickup point for boys is now from Wyvern car park.

After such a successful morning last weekend, Wyvern winter sport will continue once more with internal fixtures to be held at Newington Senior School campus on Saturday 29th August.

We will continue to adhere to current government recommendations and follow our COVID-19 protocols. These include no parents onsite, temperature checking of students, sanitising and social distancing measures.
