Please support the Salvation Army in their efforts to ensure that needy families receive gifts at Christmas Time.
Dear Parents,
On Friday morning Wyvern’s Christmas Tree will be erected in the school’s front foyer. As part of the SRC initiative each year we ask Wyvern families to support this cause by donating a gift to a needy family. All gifts should be visible and wrapped in clear cellophane paper and labelled either boy/girl and for what age group. This allows for easy identification. Gifts should be left under the Christmas Tree. In the past, our students have taken pride in giving to those who are less fortunate. The Salvation Army will hand these gifts out to needy families so that they too can celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day. Please give generously so that these families feel special.

End of Year Message, 2013
Only nine school days left. It’s hard to believe that the holiday season has arrived again. This past year we have seen and experienced a variety of achievements and successes right across all the year groups and in every part of the school and we are ending the Sesquicentenary year with brighter, and bigger boys than we started it with. We all have much to be proud of and grateful for.
Congratulations to the Year 6 boys. We wish you all the very best and hope that you are as confident about your move to high school as you should be. You’re lucky to have progressed through your primary years at Wyvern House and I hope you continue to be lucky in the pursuit of your dreams. You will have, as you’ve just had, first-class teachers, programs and facilities to prepare you for the next stage of your life.
For those of us still at Wyvern House next year, One-Up Day will be on Tuesday, 3 December and should be great fun for the boys. The Uniform Shop will be open from 8.00am-11.00am and 2.30pm-3.30pm for parents who want to get ahead of the new year uniform rush.
If you can’t make it to the Uniform Shop by the end of the term and need a fitting for your boy(s), we will also be opening the Uniform Shop before Term 1 2014 starts from 7.30am-11:00am on both Thursday, 23 January and Friday, 24 January 2014.
I spent a bit of time thanking people in my previous note, so this time I will keep it short and send a blanket thank you to every parent, carer, friend and family member who has volunteered for the school this year. Wyvern House would not have the same community spirit without you.
The most special thanks of all go to the staff of Wyvern House. We are blessed to have such caring and capable people looking after our children.

I do hope you enjoy the opportunity to recharge the batteries and change the routine, which hopefully includes more sleeping in or at least staying in your pyjamas until later in morning. So, with a New Year full of promise ahead of us, I wish you a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays and all the best for 2014.
I do hope to see you at the Welcome Picnic, the Welcome Cocktail Party or hopefully, both.
Until next time, be well and happy.

Robert Louis Stevenson the famous author of books such as ‘Treasure Island’, ‘Kidnapped’ and ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ also penned many prayers. Here is a Christmas prayer that he wrote which you may wish think upon and use over the Christmas break.
God, our loving Father,
help us to remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of angels,
the gladness of the shepherds and
the wisdom of the wise men.
Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings
and teach us to be merry with clean hearts.
May Christmas morning make us happy to be your children
and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

James Gestakovski – 2F
James thought about symbols for Summer in his Japanese Hokusai styled print. He included a path leafy trees and flying birds to give the idea of a sunshiny day.

Alessio Cordaro – 6B
A wonderful Gyotaku print. This fish print was used to make the scales of the ‘Wyvern’ Sculptures. Alessio’s was so precise, it was framed instead.

As we enter the final stages of a very busy term I commend Wyvern students for their ongoing enthusiasm and energy. Our upper primary students have recently enjoyed excursions to various locations and pleasingly the feedback from members of the public about their conduct is very positive. As our Year 6 students start to look forward to their next phase of schooling they can be very proud of the excellent reputations they will leave behind at Wyvern.
I wish to draw your attention to two important events taking place before the end of term. On Sunday 1 December ‘Carols on the Oval’ will take place at the Senior School. You are warmly invited to join the College community for this festive occasion from 7.30pm. Parking will be provided for early birds as will seating for the elderly. Otherwise please do bring rugs and cushions for our Carol service. Our Wyvern Prep Choir will be participating in this event.
On 3rd December students in our current Kindergarten through to Year 5 will spend 2 hours with their class teacher for next year. This is an excellent way for initial contact to be made and for next year’s relationships to be built. It also means that the start of 2014 gets off to a very smooth start.
Finally, this year’s Annual Wyvern Prize Giving for students in Years 3 -6 will take place in Centenary Hall on Thursday 5 December at 9:00am. Students are asked to meet their class teachers at the Senior School in the area outside the Music Center next to Centenary Hall no later than 8:30am wearing their summer uniform minus black cap. Following Prize Giving we invite parents and students to join Wyvern staff for morning tea in the Sesquicentenary Quadrangle area at the very end of the driveway.
Whilst we take the opportunity to award a number of prizes for outstanding achievement, Prize Giving is primarily an opportunity for the Wyvern community to mark and celebrate a most positive year. As such, this event is a compulsory activity for all students in Years 3-6. Families with students in K-2 are most welcome to attend. The end of the ceremony marks the official start of the summer break.
Mr Ian Holden
Head of Wyvern
