Lost Property

Dear Parents,

Lost property at the bottom of the internal staircase is once again overflowing! Thanks to Nicole Williams, many boys have their items returned every fortnight. Can you please check if your son is missing any uniform items, lunch boxes, drink bottles, shoes, boots etc as most of these items are named.

If your property is not collected by the end of the term it will be disposed of.

Thank you for your consideration and understanding.

Kind regards

Wyvern Office

Have You forgotten to Place a Lunch Order?

Dear Parents,

When ordering your son’s recess/lunch orders online please ensure that you do this before the cut-off time of 8.45am each day to ensure that your son gets his lunch order. If you order after the cut-off time of 8.45am his order will not be processed.

Please note that no late orders will be accepted by the Tuckshop and no money will be loaned out. There are no exceptions.

In the event that your son does not have any lunch or recess with him he will be given a sandwich/es of either vegemite, jam or cheese. These sandwiches are free of charge.

Thank you for your consideration and attention to this matter.

Kind regards

Wyvern Office

Faith Matters

Upside Down

Have you ever been in a two dollar shop and found a real treasure? Not merely something that is useful but something of great worth? Probably not!

The philosopher Kierkegaard tells of a vandal who breaks into a department store at night. In the darkness he moves through each department, each floor, deliberately, carefully.  Just before dawn breaks and the light will reveal him, he exits the way he came. The amazing thing is he does not steal anything but rather rearranges all the price tags. The next day shopkeepers, not to mention the delighted customers, encounter such oddities as diamond necklaces on sale for a few dollars and cheap costume-jewellery earrings costing thousands.

God’s Good News, is like that says Kierkegaard: it changes around all our normal assumptions about worth and value. Hence Jesus can say of a poor widow who puts a few cents in the temple treasury bucket, “I tell you she has put more in than all the rest!” Her gift from poverty is a real treasure compared to the tokenism of apparently rich benefactors. Jesus values the motives of the woman highly. She holds the little she has in an open hand whilst the others cling tightly to what they have. It’s as if God counts what we keep, what we cling to, rather than what we are prepared to give. I guess we can’t truly mirror God’s generosity if we are tight-fisted with anything … compassion, love, time etc

God’s kingdom is a strange upside down economy where a willingness to embrace poverty is blessed! Jesus says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Artist of the Week

K – 2 Artists of the Week

(From L to R)

Hayden Hsieh KL

Hayden experimented with clay as a material for drawing his face. His finishing touches to the work using bronze coloured paint make his artwork look like a bronze sculpture.

Jordan Nguyen 1W

Jordan was able to remember the artist’s rules of linear perspective in his gentle watercolour landscape.

Benjamin Nichol 2H

Benjamin looked carefully at the still life painting by Giorgio Morandi and created his own collaged version of the work.

Rohan George 2S

Rohan looked diligently at Paul Cezanne’s paintings of apples. His observational drawing of a real apple using oil pastel showed light and dark colours to make them appear three dimensional.

Debbie Bourke
K-2 Art Teacher

Years 3 – 6 Artists of the Week

Year 6

Year 6 completed their homage to Anzac warriors, by completing assemblage works using a variety of mediums, including rust and gel.

The task was to create an artwork with a sombre mood. Students were asked to think about how it might have felt for the Anzacs landing in a foreign place and having to fight under extreme conditions. Students were asked how they could make images that were both sombre and thoughtful.

Congratulations to Liam Spiropoulos, Fletcher Jakes, Kim Long Lam, and Sachin Spencer (L to R)

Students also finished their ceramic ‘Warriors’. Students reflected on what makes a ‘Warrior’. Discussions involved traits from ‘minions’ to football players.

Congratulations to Simon Petsianis for his Roman Warrior and Jack Purkis for his mash up of a Viking, Nordic warrior (L to R)

Students have just finished working on their Sketchbook Ink- iPad app digital art. Students were introduced to Del Kathryn Barton and her portraits with animal familiars. This coincided with their class work on ‘Change’. Students were required to complete a portrait using the app and then find an animal to morph with the face, creating a surreal artwork.

Congratulations to  Max Gallant, Angus Montrose, and Joshua Smith for their cleverly rendered artworks (L to R)

A Message from Mr Holden

As we near the end of another very busy term at Wyvern I want to reflect on some wonderful community events that have taken place recently.

Our inaugural maths week provided a terrific opportunity for parents and sons to enjoy some challenging and fun activities. I thank the P&F for supporting the ‘Professor Maths’ family maths workshops.

Last Friday we had a tremendous turn out for the Father’s day breakfast. Good conversation, good food and good coffee was the order of the day. Again thank you to the P F for their generous support of this event.

Next week on Wednesday 16th September the P&F are supporting our bi-annual musical ‘The Pirates of Penzance’. The show will feature every student from Years 5 and 6. We are looking forward to an exciting evening and I acknowledge the tremendous support of the P&F Creative Arts Group, parent volunteers and staff who have worked extremely hard to prepare for the event.

At the end of this term Ms Carmen Kruithoff, one of our K-2 Teacher Aides will leave Wyvern to pursue further study. Ms Kruithoff has given wonderful service to the boys of Wyvern boys over many years and we wish her every success in her future endeavours.
