A Message from Mr Holden

With two weeks left of this term, I reflect on a very busy and productive few weeks. Alongside their normal lessons, boys have been involved in many other activities including excursions, our STEM Festival and school camps to name a few. I thank all parents for your practical support of these valuable activities.

In our final two weeks of this semester we look forward to the Wyvern Music Showcase for all students in Years 3-6 to be held in Centenary Hall on Tuesday 19 June at 6:00pm. Following this, the K-2 Music Showcase takes place in Wyvern Hall on Friday 22 June at 8:45am. Our keenly anticipated biannual Shakespeare Festival is in the final week of this term. Throughout the week all boys will have the opportunity to work with actors in residence from Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company.  I thank the Wyvern P & F for their financial support of this event.

Semester 1 student reports will be available online from Friday 29 June. Please click here for further instructions as to how to access your son’s report. The report format identifies your son’s key strengths as well as areas for future learning in all subjects. We hope that this will allow for purposeful discussions at parent teacher meetings scheduled early in Term 3 (31 July and 2 August. Details of how to book a time slot for these meetings will be sent to you at the start of next term.

Finally, a reminder that the agenda for this evening’s P&F meeting will focus on the College’s child protection policies and procedures as well as Wyvern’s educational approach for this area. Dr David Mulford, Headmaster and David Roberts, Deputy Headmaster will also attend. The meeting starts at 6.30pm in Wyvern Hall. Please note, that on this occasion there will be no child supervision.

Artists of the Week

K – 2 Artists of the Week

Kindergarten have continued their unit of work on Portraiture and have been busy looking at the proportions and placement of facial features.  They now have many tricks to use to ensure that their facial features are both accurate in size and are in the right position on their face.  The boys were particularly shocked at just how big their ears really are.  Alexander, Kaelan and Daniel engaged their noticing muscles to create both interesting and decorative portraits.  Well done, boys!

Faith Matters

Integrity

“Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no-one is watching” – C.S. Lewis

I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there.

(1 Chronicles 29:17)Have you ever done a test where at the end, the teacher has asked everyone to mark their own paper? What would you do if there was an answer you’d missed, but suddenly you remembered what it was? You’ve got the opportunity right there to change it. Nobody would know. It’s just one little question, and you really did know the answer, you’d just forgotten it… Those are thoughts we might have if we found ourselves in that situation. We might try to justify why it’s ok to do it ‘just this once’. But if we give in to that temptation, we’re proving that we’re potentially capable of giving in to bigger, more serious temptations. The effect on us in the long run matters.

Each small sin gradually chips away at our integrity. Doing the right thing might have a cost attached to it, but the Bible says that God rejoices when he searches our hearts and finds integrity (1 Chronicles 29:17).

So, let’s commit to walking in integrity, from this moment. If there’s a time in your past when you didn’t behave with total honesty, bring it before God and ask to move forward with him into a life that’s full of integrity.

Healthy Appetites

Dear Parents,

We have had an influx of students coming to the office at lunchtime asking for sandwich vouchers as they have already eaten all their food (sometimes all their food is eaten by recess)!  This  could be that your son is experiencing a growth spurt and needs extra fuel to get him through the day or the cold weather. Whilst the purpose of the sandwich voucher is purely in an emergency when your son doesn’t have any lunch (whether it was left at home or their lunch order from the Tuckshop didn’t get processed in time), we would never turn a student away if they are still hungry.

Can we please ask that you make sure that your son has extra food packed in his lunch box in the event that it is needed.

Your attention to this is greatly appreciated.
