A Message from Mr Holden

This week it has been wonderful to see our Wyvern students immersed in the world of Elizabethan literature with the biannual Shakespeare Festival. All year groups have enjoyed working with actors from Bell Shakespeare who have brought a number of Shakespeare’s plays alive. As mentioned, when I last wrote, we are very grateful for the P&F’s funding of this superb event; it is particularly pleasing to see every student K-6 benefiting from the experience.

At the end of this term Mrs Vanessa Perry, Wyvern Learning Enhancement Team Leader will leave us due to her relocation to Hong Kong. I thank Mrs Perry for her excellent contribution to Wyvern. From Term 3 Mrs Julie Burke has been seconded from her senior school role to be our learning Enhancement Team Leader. Mrs Burke has tremendous expertise in this area having been Head of Learning Support at both Kincoppal School and St Joseph’s College. Mr Stuart Brown, who has previously worked as a learning enhancement teacher at Wyvern will also join the team in Term 3.

Finally, I wish all students and families a restful break and I look forward to seeing boys back at school for the start of Term 3 on Monday 23rd July.

Faith Matters

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.’ 1 Thessalonians 5:18

When things don’t go the way we’re expecting, or circumstances seem to be against us, it’s easy to fall into the trap of complaining. It can temporarily make us feel better. But the cycle goes like this: we have a problem so we complain and stay stuck. We feel bad, so we complain even more and end up with a whole load of stress, rather than a solution. When we get trapped in the cycle of complaining, and we forget what God’s done for us, we lose our joy.

So instead of complaining, we need to be counting our blessings and thanking God. ‘Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus’ (1 Thessalonians 5:18). The word ‘all’ is key. We shouldn’t just be thankful when things go well and turn out how we were expecting, we should be thankful in all situations. It will change our perspective completely.

Healthy Appetites

Dear Parents,

We have had an influx of students coming to the office at lunchtime asking for sandwich vouchers as they have already eaten all their food (sometimes all their food is eaten by recess)!  This  could be that your son is experiencing a growth spurt and needs extra fuel to get him through the day or the cold weather. Whilst the purpose of the sandwich voucher is purely in an emergency when your son doesn’t have any lunch (whether it was left at home or their lunch order from the Tuckshop didn’t get processed in time), we would never turn a student away if they are still hungry.

Can we please ask that you make sure that your son has extra food packed in his lunch box in the event that it is needed.

Your attention to this is greatly appreciated.

WARMING WYVERN SPIRIT IN ACTION

With much enthusiasm and bundles of energy, a group of Year 3 boys flanked by mums, dads and a few siblings spent Saturday afternoon at a Banksmeadow warehouse volunteering to sort and pack boxes of new clothing for people needing support. We were able to process over (an astounding!) 70 boxes of clothing, much of which will be delivered this week directly into the hands of disadvantaged people in our community. All the warm jackets, jumpers, pants and jeans will be particularly appreciated at this time of year.

The Year 3 Class Parents wish to extend a giant thank you to everyone involved. A special acknowledgement goes out to our extra helpers from Year 6, who jumped in to help when we were at risk of not having enough people to run the event.
