A Message from Mr Holden

Congratulations to all Wyvern students who performed so well in our Music Showcases last week. Thank you to parents for your strong and practical support of our music programs as well as to the Wyvern Music team for producing two very memorable concerts.

Semester 1 student reports will be available online from Friday 29 June. Please click here for further instructions as to how to access your son’s report. The report format identifies your son’s key strengths as well as areas for future learning in all subjects. We hope that this will allow for purposeful discussions at parent teacher meetings scheduled early in Term 3 (30 July and 1 August). Details of how to book a time slot for these meetings will be sent to you at the start of next term.

Many congratulations to Harry Halleen and Mateja Wong who ran exceptionally well at the recent CIS Cross Country event. Harry came second in his age division and Mateja came a very creditable third.

After a very busy and productive Term I am sure that the boys are looking forward to the winter break. I thank the boys, staff team and parents for their wonderful efforts over this semester and look forward to seeing the students back in action on Monday 22 July.

Artists of the Week

K – 2 Artists of the Week

In Visual Arts, Kindergarten have been exploring self-portraiture.  They drew themselves firstly from memory and then fully engaged their noticing muscles to draw themselves from observation. They worked very hard to include detail and represent their facial features.  After the initial drawing phase, the boys had the opportunity to go back and rework their portraits in order to add greater detail and texture.

Congratulations to Harrison McIntyre and Alexander Zhuang. Both boys demonstrated a wonderful sense of balance and excellent control of line whilst drawing

3 – 6 Artists of the Week

Congratulations to all Year 5 for their hard work this term. The boys have finished their ‘100 Amazing Journey’ Artworks. They have done a wonderful job with creating poses that tell a story. The boys were introduced into the technical aspects of watercolour on hot pressed paper. They also used graphite paper to trace themselves as the main character from their story. The backgrounds were painted as a result of thinking about where the character could be in a moment of time.

Congratulations to Guiness Devlin, Felix Beresford, Will Chanter and Thomas Tweeddale who excelled in this artwork.

Fundraising Film Festival

Spend a night travelling the world and being inspired by a selection of jaw-dropping, spine-tingling and tear-jerking adventure films – all while raising money for a great cause!

When:  26 July
Time: 7:00pm
Venue:  Drama Centre, Newington College
Cost: $30

Special guest speaker on the night is the entertaining and renowned ultra-athlete – Tristan Miller.

You will be mesmerised and moved by his incredible story of dedication and resilience. His best-selling book ‘Run Like Crazy’ details his remarkable journey to international ultra-athlete; running 52 marathons, in 52 weeks, in 42 countries!

The evening is raising funds for Have Bear Will Run, a registered Australian Charity founded by David King (Year 6 class teacher). Its sole purpose is to provide scholarships that will enhance the education of students who have battled serious illness and wish to pursue tertiary or further education.

A number of years ago while working at the Children’s Hospital, Westmead; David set himself a mission to help cancer-surviving students chase their own education dreams. It all started by running a marathon in every state and territory of Australia with the Bandaged Bear strapped to his back – hence the name Have Bear Will Run.

Since then, the Bear has taken on adventures all over the globe in a bid to raise money for the Lucian Page Scholarship. This important scholarship was set up to honour the memory of a little warrior friend who lost his battle to cancer. In its 6th year now, previous recipients have gone on to follow their own dreams at University as Nurses, Zoologists, Project Managers and Biomedical Engineers.
