A Message from Mr Holden

As we approach the end of Term 3, I reflect on a purposeful and calm period of learning for the boys where, despite some restrictions, we have operated many of our normal school activities. I thank our staff for their steadfast and determined efforts as well as our parent body who have provided wonderful support. The students of Wyvern House have been so impressive with displays of character and enthusiasm and deserve a good break in the upcoming holidays.

We are pleased that the latest NSW health guidance (issued today) means that some of the planned events and activities in Term 4, such as some music ensembles, excursions and school camps might now be possible. However, as we have only just received the revised guidelines, we do need to review the detailed information before we can confirm which of these events will take place. We will provide you further information as soon as we can.

Best wishes for a relaxing break.

Ian Holden
Head of Wyvern

Artist of the Week

K-2 Artist of the Week

This week, Kindergarten have completed their Henri Rousseau inspired jungle scenes. They have created and collaged a variety of jungle animals using mixed media to show texture and movement.

3-6 Artist of the Week

Year 4 have been making ceramic ships based on the work of British artist, Grayson Perry. The boys made artefacts from terracotta clay, and then made ships based on galleons and pirate ships. The boys were able to problem solve various engineering issues as they made these ships.

Congratulations to Henry Eversgerd, Leo Phoon and Andrew Wing for their beautiful craftsmanship when making this work.

Interschool Academic Decathlon

On September 21, 16 Year 5 and 6 students from Newington (Wyvern) competed in an Interschool Academic Decathlon held virtually between 18 schools including Queenwood, Emanuel School, St Aloysius, Randwick Public School, St Andrews, St Luke’s and Covenant Christian College. The students competed in 10 decathlon events including: English, Mathematics, Poetry, Science, Art, Drama, Engineering, Creative Thinking, Geography and General Knowledge. The students had a fantastic day of fun, learning and collaboration – competing in events that were ‘harder than they expected’.
