Basketball – USA
Connor Miller (ON 2015) and Lewis Holey (ON 2012) are now playing basketball with Vermont Technical College in Randolph Vermont, Connor as a Guard and Lewis as Forward. Both are studying Business in this well regarded College.
The Team plays in the YSCC (Yankee Small College Conference), a Division II conference in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. The conference consists of two-year and four-year course colleges from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and one member in New York State.
With a number of new players joining the Vermont Tech Knights for the 2016-7 season, the results were mixed for the first half of the season. With the team adjusting to the style, rigour and leadership that the Newington duo brought, the season was revived with much success culminating with a place in the finals.
At the finals played in Maine, Lewis was named as USCAA Men’s Basketball Division II Honourable Mention. He also earned 1st team All-Conference honours at the Yankee Small College Conference banquet during the end of season conference tournament. This award is voted on by all coaches within the league after each team has nominated players. According to coach Tyrrell, “Lew has had an unbelievable freshman season. He has garnered great respect from all opponents through the year due to his work ethic and skill on the court. I am so proud of him and the other players”. Coach Tyrrell went on further to say “Lewis is a great addition to our team this year. He made an impact from day one with his tough play and he just never gives up in a game. I am really proud of him, and it shows throughout the league that other teams notice his stellar play.”
