Pathways to the Future
Choices after Year 12 – current Year 10 and 11 Boys
With Year 12 having commenced the HSC Exam period and Years 8-11 Exams commencing week 15A (5 November 2012), boys in Years 10-11 should think about organising a meeting with Mr Breden to discuss academic and co-curricular activities during the senior years that will enhance their chances of securing scholarships opportunities offered at universities in Australia and overseas.
For Year 11 Boys, Term 4 is an ideal time to look at possible options for 2014 and developing a plan for 2013 to achieve your post-school goals.
For Year 10 Boys, start to plan to look for opportunities to undertake voluntary Work Experience over the Summer School Holiday period. By doing so will allow you to evaluate whether or not a particular career is the right one for you.
Tax File Number Applications
Boys aged 13 years old or over and still at school are eligible to apply for a Tax File Number (TFN) through the school. Applying for the TFN through the school required less paperwork and is a quicker process. If you are thinking about getting casual work over the Summer School Holidays, you will more than likely require a TFN. Please see Mr Breden to collect TFN information and an application form.
Year 12 – After the HSC Exam period 2012
With the HSC Exam period finishing on the 13 November 2012 and HSC results and ATAR Rank available the 19-20 December 2012, current Year 12 Boys and Parents are invited to contact Mr Breden and make an appointment to assist with any post secondary discussions for 2013 and beyond. Further information regarding scheduling appointments will be available in the next issue of Black & White. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Breden.
If you would like to make further enquiries or to make an appointment, please contact me on 02 9568 9429 or Email: jbreden@newington.nsw.edu.au. For Boys at school, please drop by the Careers Office located on Level 1, above Prescott House locker area at the back of the Le Couteur Wing (Library).
