Book Week Events 2012
As our celebrations for Book Week draw near I would like to provide you with significant details for each event.
Book Fair
We will start our Book Week celebrations off with our annual Book Fair in the library. This year there will be several options for your consideration. As usual, the students will have the opportunity to purchase books for their own personal home library. They will also be able to buy a book from the fair and donate it to our school library or the classroom library.
A percentage of the retail price of each book bought at the fair will return to the school to give us the opportunity to add resources to our growing collection.
Fair details – Tuesday 21 August 2012
Times – 8.00 to 9.30am and 3.00 to 4.30pm
Stubbies World Change Challenge
Each year we participate in donations to the Room to Read organisation. This year we will be participating in the Stubbies World Change Challenge to help build a school library for the kids in Cambodia. We are aiming to raise $100 for this cause. If you have any coins/change in your pockets, purses or wallets and would like to put it to some use then please add it to our bucket. There will be small buckets in classrooms and a larger one at the Book Fair.
Book Character Parade
Our annual parade will occur on the Junior Playground area at 8.30am on Tuesday 21 August 2012. The theme for this year’s Book Week is:
CHAMPIONS READ!
During our library times over the next few weeks we will spend time discussing this theme and considering possibilities for the parade. Already the students have been inquiring into the meaning for ‘champion’ and who might be an example of such a person. While we certainly were able to name sporting champions we also sought out some not-so-famous ones, our unsung champions, such as Fred Hollows. The challenge came when we sought characters from books that could be considered champions. Each time a name was put forward consideration was given as to why the person or character could be considered a champion.
For our parade we invite the students to participate and get into the spirit of the celebration by dressing as a book champion – the staff certainly will!
