On Monday 6 August, Years 1 and 2 travelled back in time for an olden days Theme Day. Boys were given a taste of what school would have been like and came to school dressed in an amazing array of period costumes. We began the day with some rigorous exercises, followed by some times table rote learning and handwriting on our slates using chalk. At recess, boys discovered the joys of marbles and hopscotch and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Strictness was also a feature of the day and some boys experienced what the cane might have been like. This seemed to please some of our parents considerably. The day was a great success and was a fantastic stimulus for our Unit of Inquiry on Where we are in Place and Time. The students have formed a deeper understanding of how school has changed over the years.
