A Message from Mr Holden

It has been an exciting time for Newington College with the announcement that Mr Michael Parker will be our 19th Headmaster. He will replace Dr David Mulford, who retires at the end of this year. Mr Parker is currently Headmaster at Oxley College in Bowral, which has enjoyed significant advances in academic performance and survey results across students, teachers and staff under his leadership. He will join the Newington community with his wife Fiona, a Senior Lecturer in English at UNSW, and daughters Julia and Elena, on January 1 2019.  I offer him the warmest of welcomes.

Congratulations to the Year 3 to Year 6 Wyvern students who all tackled yesterday’s cross county event with great energy and tenacity. There were some wonderful individual performances (see the Wyvern Sports section for details) and I was especially pleased to see such great camaraderie and team spirit on display. Thank you to parents who dodged the showers to support your sons and this event. I also acknowledge the superb organisation of Mr Joel Wilson, Wyvern Sportsmaster, and the assistance of the whole staff team.

Just a quick reminder that prior to this evening’s P and F meeting, there will be an opportunity for parents to have a formal tour of our new areas including the Early Learning Centre, Year 6 Centre, STEM room and the upgraded music facilities. Please meet in the Wyvern Hall at 6:30pm. After the tour, Ms Aimee Parkinson (Year 1 Team Leader) will present some further information about our Big Write initiative that we are implementing in all classes this year.
