A Message From Mr Holden
Welcome back to Term 2. I do hope you enjoyed some quality family time over the break.
NAPLAN
The attention in the early part of Term 2 will be on national assessments in literacy and numeracy (NAPLAN) for students in Years 3 and 5. The tests will be administered by our Year 3 and Year 5 teaching staff. Testing will take place over three days from Tuesday May 14 to Thursday May 16. Friday May 17 has been set aside as a make-up day for students who miss a section or who are absent on a particular test day. Attendance during the testing week is particularity important.
YEAR 6 Camp
Year 6 students and teachers departed on Wednesday morning for a 3 day outdoor education camp on the shores of Lake Macquarie. Such experiences are of enormous benefit to students. I thank staff in advance for the care of their boys whilst they are away.
SPACES
As Dr Mulford indicated in his recent letter to parents, the Newington SPACES secure intranet site is becoming the major communication link between current families and the College. The vast majority of information about all aspects of Wyvern is regularly updated here. We are moving to on-line College Reports for Wyvern boys for Semester 2, 2013. Parents will need to be registered users and familiar with the relevant SPACES areas to access these reports. Please use the following link to access a simple information sheet showing the registration process. Click here for the SPACES user document.
ON-LINE TUCKSHOP ORDERING
Another feature of the Newington SPACES secure internet site is the ability to order meals from the Wyvern Tuckshop online. The system was recently trialed by the Wyvern P and F executive team and is now available via SPACES for parents to use. Please note that the current lunch ordering system will still be available for Term 2, but will be phased out from the start of Term 3.
STUDENT FREE DAY – FRIDAY 7 JUNE
As shown in the Term 2 calendar, on Friday 7 June the Wyvern campus will be having a Student Free Day. The teachers will be attending a professional learning day focusing on our Building Learning Power framework with the internationally renowned educator, Professor Guy Claxton. The school will be offering some limited supervision, via OSH Club, for any students who have brothers attending the senior campus – as it will be a normal school day for them. Please contact the Wyvern office on 95689444 to secure a place.
Finally, I respectfully remind parents of their obligation to put the safety of students first when dropping off and picking up their sons. As such I do request that all of our traffic rules (listed below) are adhered to. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.
CAR PARK RULES
The following rules ensure the safe use of our car park drive through facility at pick up time.
To avoid lengthy queues forming in Harrow Road please do not arrive at the car park entrance before the following times:
- 3:00pm for Years K-2 every day
- 3:15pm for Years 3-6 on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
- 3:25pm for Years 3-6 on Monday and Wednesday (sports training days)
- Do not get out of your car when dropping off or picking up your son.
- Ensure your son can leave and access your car via the left curb-side rear door.
- Cars are not allowed to wait in the car park. If for any reason your son is not in the car park at the end of the day you must leave via Cambridge Street and re-enter from Harrow Road.
- Parents who are picking up children at different times must leave via Cambridge Street and re-enter from Harrow Road.
- Observe all safety regulations, including new national child restraint laws for 0- 7 year olds, when travelling with young children in cars.
Please note that a bus zone operates at the front of the school at the following times:
- 7:45am – 8:45am
- 2:45pm – 3:45pm
