Faith Matters
North and South Korea Unite at Winter Olympics
Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.
Many of you will know that I love all sorts of sports, so to begin Faith Matters this year, I thought we’d look at some stories from the world of sports and relate them to matters of faith!
In 2018, The Olympics again showcased the ability to bring together nations that politics have long kept far apart. One of the most drastic examples was early in the Winter Olympics when representatives from North and South Korea walked together into the opening ceremony in a show of unity — months before the leaders of their respective countries would cross each other’s borders for the first time since the Korean War.
This show of unity reminds me of God’s call on us to be people of peace and people who break down barriers. Being people of peace is really hard, particularly when we feel hurt or let down or ignored. But the good news is God promises that his Spirit fills those who love him, and that Spirit is able to change our hearts, to give us grace for those who have hurt us, and to bring us peace too.
