A Message from Mr Holden

It has been a busy two weeks at Wyvern, especially for parents, as many of you have taken time out of your busy schedules to attend information sessions for THRASS and Big Write (our whole school literacy approaches) as well as this week’s Parent Teacher meetings. We really appreciate your commitment to such events.

In our busy school we rely on a range of communication tools to ensure that there is clarity around events, activities and, most importantly, the learning that your sons are undertaking in their lessons. Our primary communication tool is Spaces. Whilst there may be information shared on various informal social media platforms organised by parents, the official (and reliable) source of information is via Spaces. I respectfully remind parents who chose to use unofficial social media platforms that it is not appropriate or helpful to other parents to use such channels to pass negative comment about the school community, not least because it is impossible for a solution to be sought. We continually seek to improve all areas of our school offerings and place a high value on parent feedback via the appropriate channels. For further information please click here for the Home School Communication Policy.

Tomorrow we celebrate International Women’s Day. Class teachers will remind their students that it is a special day to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. It is important at Wyvern that we take time to recognise such mighty achievements as well as to advocate and to promote equal rights for woman both in our country and internationally.

K – 2 Artists of the Week

Ethan Wing 1Y

William Angelopolous 1S

Year 1 have begun their Forces of Nature unit of work by exploring the use of warm colour and by looking at all the different ways we could represent the sun.  Ethan and William have used a variety of lines to show light and heat.  They have demonstrated pleasing craftsmanship in their application of mixed media to create an interesting sun composition. Well done, boys.

Faith Matters

North and South Korea Unite at Winter Olympics

Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

2 Corinthians 13:11

Many of you will know that I love all sorts of sports, so to begin Faith Matters this year, I thought we’d look at some stories from the world of sports and relate them to matters of faith!

In 2018, The Olympics again showcased the ability to bring together nations that politics have long kept far apart. One of the most drastic examples was early in the Winter Olympics when representatives from North and South Korea walked together into the opening ceremony in a show of unity — months before the leaders of their respective countries would cross each other’s borders for the first time since the Korean War.

This show of unity reminds me of God’s call on us to be people of peace and people who break down barriers. Being people of peace is really hard, particularly when we feel hurt or let down or ignored. But the good news is God promises that his Spirit fills those who love him, and that Spirit is able to change our hearts, to give us grace for those who have hurt us, and to bring us peace too.
