P & F News and Events

Hello!

I’ve got some big shoes to fill in this role, taking over from Julie Gigg who did such a wonderful job as President. But I’m feeling a great deal of comfort – and excitement – knowing that the P&F Executive team has such a super group of members volunteering their time and energy to support our school community. I’m especially pleased to have Emma Cope as the Vice President.

There is still one vacancy on the P&F Executive, which is the position of CAST Support. CAST is the Creative Arts Support Team that assists the art and music departments, and is behind the success of our stand at Back to Newington Day. If you’re interested in the position please email Nicole Newson at nicnewson@msn.com.

Our Class Parents are being secured for next year with some current parents already confirming they will stay on and new parents joining us to represent Year 5, as this year’s Year 4 class parents have both joined the P&F Executive. Class Parents are very important contributors to our school culture and to the solid connections made by families in each year group. I’ve volunteered in this job in the past and understand the work involved and the great intentions of the parents who do this work. Thank you so much.

Another big thank you to all the families who have recently volunteered to help new boys and their families settle into Wyvern House next year by being mentors for the families joining their son’s year group. Starting a new school can seem daunting to children and their parents, and our goal is to make their start a great one with a warm welcome from the Newington community.

And one more huge thank you to Toby and Janie Guy who have successfully run the Year 3-6 Father and Son Camp at Cockatoo Island this year. It was so popular that we sold out of our initial allocation almost immediately then filled a second allocation of tents. Nearly 300 fathers and sons attended and had a fantastic time.

Hopefully you can attend the Cupcake Decorating Competition in Mary Andrews Garden on Friday, 15 November from 3:30pm – 5:00pm. Our boys will enter and judge the competition and we can check out the new playground equipment. Our famous wood fire pizza and homemade lemonade will be on offer for an easy dinner solution.

Upcoming events

  • Wednesday 13 November – Year 6 Surf Day
  • Thursday 14 November – Year 5 Surf Day

Finally, please, please sign up to SPACES. Both Wyvern and the senior school are using it more extensively and, once you’re familiar with it, it’s really the most efficient way to get information – all the news of the day that is relevant to you is sent to you in one email. And, of course, while you’re there, make sure you sign up to Wyvern: Parents and Friends.

Until next time, be well and happy.
