Artist of the Week

K – 2 Artists of the Week

This week’s Artists of the Week are Oscar Shaw (2H) and Zachary Messis (1P). Oscar thought about how artists can show movement in their art works. He used the idea of repetition to complete a collaged action figure. Zachary remembered information about warm and cool colours and how they can play tricks on your eye. Cool colours look as if they are receding and warm colours look as if they are coming forward. He  made a work demonstrating this effect based on Wassily Kandinsky’s ‘Concentric Circles’ painting.

3 – 6 Artists of the Week

Last term Year 5 completed their masks exploring cultural identity and design. This artwork was an extended process where the students explored masks from different cultures and combined images and designs to make a unique mask. Students used plaster bandage as a sculptural tool and were able to manipulate it into various shapes and designs. They were then able to paint and decorate the mask with other materials. It was interesting to see the differences between the mask they designed in their VAPDs and the masks that eventuated. This problem solving process meant that Year 5 had to adopt a flexible growth mindset when completing this project.

Well done to these boys who are artists of the week:
