As we round up the first half of Term 1 it is so easy to slip into routines of packing lunches, driving to sport, work etc. Make sure you take the time to enjoy your family and play a game, like Newington 150th Monopoly…. on sale now!
On Thursday 21st February, over 40 members of the Wyvern Community attended the first P&F Meeting for 2013. The pizza’s were a hit with the children and the Gap Students enjoyed playing games with them on the roof top while the parents were treated to an informative presentation about looking after #1 – YOU. We as parents have a huge influence on our children so reflecting to them healthy habits such as eating a RAINBOW of colour everyday can be fun and healthy. Thank you to Julie Maree Wood who walked us through the’ how and why’ we need to eat a variety of coloured fresh foods. Also at the meeting, Mr Holden gave a brief update about the development and focus for Wyvern in 2013. The P&F have assisted the school with funds towards “quiet area” play equipment for the K-2 playground and Staging stairs for Wyvern Hall. The K-2 readers have also had an additional boost of readers from the funds received from the Christmas Party organised by Kindy 2011.
On the 15th March, Year 4 will host the Women of Wyvern or WoW Dinner at 4143 Alexandria. A great night of catching up with all the Women of Wyvern to discuss all the finer details of lunch making, homework and how to keep the boys’ hair neat!! Entertainment and a glass of sparkling on arrival will be provided as well as a raffle with all funds going to “Room to Read” charity which Newington has nominated to align with for the upcoming Literature Festival. Get your tickets online quickly as this event will be a sell out.
On Friday 22nd March the first official social function for the Sesquicentenary will be held to celebrate 150 years of Sport in Newington. A wonderful panel of celebrities will be part of the days proceedings. We are looking for donations of services or products that could assist you in promoting your business. If you have something to offer please email, djgigg@gmail.com and I will contact you for collection etc. Take the afternoon off work, bring a friend and enjoy lunch with fellow Newingtonians.
Shorty after the Easter break we will be holding The Great Garden Party – Friday 5th April. Each year group has been assigned a stall for the afternoon of fun. Please contact your class parent for details of how you can assist.
In Term 2 all boys are required to wear winter uniform. This consists of grey blazer, long sleeve striped shirt and winter weight shorts. Come down to the Uniform Shop for all of these items prior to the end of end Term 1. The Uniform Shop will not be open during the school holiday break. There are also many other items available such as Newington badges to reward your son in areas that he may have achieved great results or just applied himself well. Badges include rugby, swimming, music, basketball and soccer.
Size 2-8 socks will be available from 4th March. Thanks for your patience.
Don’t forget to order you Sesquicentenary items through the online store or via the order form which when filled will be delivered to the office for collection.
The development of SPACES and on-line ordering for the Tuckshop will be trialled over Term 1. During this process all information will be added to SPACES and included in The Wyvern. From Term 2 we hope to have all the “Cyber bugs” worked out and all parents to be utilising the sites for regular updates about the school.
