A Message from Mr Holden
This week parents with boys in Year 3 and Year 5 will receive their son’s 2019 NAPLAN results. Once again, the boys’ performance in the key areas tested (Reading, Spelling, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy) was very strong with our school average being significantly above the national average as well as for that of similar independent schools. In addition, we have seen pleasing growth in a number of the areas tested when compared to our very good results from last year. In particular, there have been significant gains in Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy. I am most pleased to see excellent student growth at Wyvern in the area of Writing (when comparing the 2017 Year 3 cohort’s results to their Year 5 results in 2019). I congratulate students and staff for their measured and calm approach to NAPLAN earlier this year.
A reminder that on Tuesday 24 September at 6:00pm all students in Year 5 and Year 6 will be performing in the Stage 3 Musical, Scheherazade. The boys have certainly been working very hard over this term and we are looking forward to a memorable evening. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful efforts of a dedicated group of parent volunteers coordinated by Nicole Williams who have given up their time to create a sparkling array of costumes. Also, I thank Ms Fuss, Acting Head of Music, for standing in so capably for Ms Belshaw whilst she has been on maternity leave. Ms Belshaw returns to Wyvern in Term 4.
As this is the last newsletter of the term, I would like to thank boys, teachers and parents for a very productive term. A reminder that Term 4 starts on Monday 14 October.
