A Message from Mr Holden
A reminder that this year’s Annual Wyvern Prize Giving for students in Years 3 – 6 will take place on the Johnson Oval on Friday 4 December at 8:45am. Students are asked to meet their class teachers at the Senior School on the courtyard next to the front entry gate no later than 8:25am wearing summer uniform minus black cap. Boys performing in various music ensembles are required to arrive earlier and will be notified of those arrangements in the next few days. One parent per family is invited to attend to sit (socially distanced) at the western side of the Johnson Oval. Parents must register their attendance by scanning the QR codes on site using the Service NSW app, click here. At the conclusion of the ceremony we request that parents and students leave swiftly and avoid any mingling with other families. The 2020 school year will conclude at the end of Prize Giving. Note, K-2 students’ last day is Thursday 3 December.
In the event of wet weather, we will relocate to Centenary Hall, unfortunately only a limited number of parents and students will be able to attend (Prize winners and Year 6 students with one parent for each family). We will communicate our wet weather plan in a timely manner should this be necessary.
I thank the staff team for their dedication, hard work and commitment shown to Wyvern students and families this year in extra-ordinary circumstances at times. After many years of service Mrs Sharon Lewandowski will be retiring from her teaching role at Wyvern. Mrs Lewandowski has made a superb contribution in a number of teaching roles over the years, including class teacher, team leader and learning enhancement teacher and will be very much missed. We wish Sharon many happy retirement years ahead. Mrs Julie D’Arrigo, our K-2 teacher aid, will also retire at the end of the year and I thank Julie for her wonderful work with our boys and staff over many years. Mrs Meg Edwards will be teaching at Lindfield Prep School in 2021. I acknowledge and thank Meg for her excellent service to our boys and parents. I am delighted that Mrs Edwards remains a Newington staff member. Mr Hugh Tomkins has been appointed as a teacher at the Scots School, Brighton Campus; I thank Hugh for his terrific work with his student and parents this year.
I acknowledge the tremendous parental support that we were so fortunate to receive. I pay tribute to our departing President of the P and F, Mr Mick Cronin, and his executive team for their steadfast support of Wyvern.
Finally, as this is the last newsletter of this year, I wish you all a wonderful family focussed summer break and festive season. I look forward to seeing boys and families on 27 January for the start of the 2021 academic year.
Ian Holden
