A Message from Mr Holden
A very warm welcome back to Term 3.
This week marked a very special time in the College’s history. On Tuesday Newington celebrated its 150th Birthday. The main focus of the day was the official opening of the new AJ Rae and LRD centres at the Senior School Campus. On Wednesday students from the school were joined by students from Tupou College in Tonga, with which Newington enjoys a strong partnership, to perform in the Founder’s Concert at Town Hall. Our own Wyvern Choir also performed at this special event. Today we were delighted to host the students from Tupou College for a special chapel at Wyvern.
As we move into the second part of our Sesquicentenary year there will be further events including the 150th Black and White Ball on 14 September. We are encouraging a strong Wyvern presence at this event so please do book your tables if you haven’t done so already.
The Wyvern Biennale Art Show will take place in the Concordia Gallery from 30th July to 8th August with a special opening on Tuesday 30th July at 6.00pm. This year art works from Kindy, Year 3 and Year 6 will be featured. You are most welcome to visit the Art Show throughout this time.
Finally, I welcome some new staff members. Mr Campbell Jensen-Robilliard joins us as our School Counsellor and can be contacted via cjensen-robilliard@newington.nsw.edu.au. Ms Maria Passaris joins the Year 4 team and can be contacted via mpassaris@newington.nsw.edu.au and Ms Joanna Ryan is teaching in Year 1 to cover Ms Jane Wiseman’s long service leave and can be contacted via jryan3@newington.nsw.edu.au
I wish your sons an enjoyable and productive Term 3.
Mr Ian Holden
Head of Wyvern House
