A Message from Mr Holden
Welcome back to what promises to be a very full and active Term 4. Please refer to the latest Term 4 parent calendar (available via Wyvern Spaces) for all details.
YEAR 2-3 TRANSITION MEETING
On Wednesday 16 October at 7:00pm there will be a special meeting for parents of current Year 2 students who make the transition into Year 3 next year. We have held this meeting for the last few years and parents have indicated to us that they have found this to be a useful forum to assist them in preparing their sons as they enter a new phase of the school.
NEW ZEALAND RUGBY AND SOCCER TOUR
During the spring break Mr Wilson, Mr Brunton and Mr Caulfield led a very successful Wyvern and Lindfield rugby, soccer and cultural tour to New Zealand. The boys represented the school with enormous pride and should be congratulated for their superb spirit and fine conduct. I also thank both staff and parents who accompanied the tour for looking after the boys so well.
NAPLAN
Next week parents of students in Year 3 and Year 5 will receive results from national compulsory assessments (NAPLAN) undertaken at the start of Term 2. Once again Wyvern students have performed very well in all key areas tested, with the school’s average score in Reading, Writing, Spelling and Numeracy being significantly higher than the average score for other state and independent schools in NSW.
I congratulate all students and teachers for these excellent results. When interpreting individual performances it is important to remember that the NAPLAN assessment information is nearly two terms out of date and, as such, does not take into account progress that students have made in the interim. Should you wish to discuss your son’s results please contact class teachers.
I advise parents that the Rev Peter Morphew takes a well deserved long service leave break this term. Please feel free to contact Chaplin Michael Bennet via mpjbennett@newington.nsw.edu.au if he can assist you with any spiritual matters.
Finally, a reminder that the Wyvern P&F AGM meeting takes place next week, Thursday 17th October at 7.00pm in Wyvern Hall. On this occasion a new executive committee will be elected, so I do encourage a strong turnout. I thank the outgoing committee for their wonderful contribution this year. Julie Gigg will be stepping down as President, as her youngest son leaves Wyvern this year. Her tenure as President has been so successful and I thank her for an outstanding contribution to Wyvern boys, parents and staff.
