A Message from Mr Holden

A warm welcome back to Term 2; I hope you were able to enjoy a relaxing break. Term 2 promises to be a very active few weeks for boys, parents and teachers.

In week 3 of this term students in Years 3 and Year 5 take part in the National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). Whilst we do see these assessments as an important opportunity to gather useful information about student and school attainment, we also do all we can to maintain a balanced approach in the lead up to the testing period as well as during the tests. We have a very strong view that the tests should ‘shed light’ rather than ‘generate heat’, as such, a balanced and pastorally focused approach is essential.

The first round of winter sport commences this Saturday. I thank all the coaches and support staff for their hard work over the last few weeks of coaching and team allocation. I urge parents to read through the following document that outlines our responsibilities under the IPSHA Code of Conduct.

I thank you in advance for your positive role modelling of essential qualities we aim to instil such as, sportsmanship, camaraderie and respect for others. For any specific questions about our Football, Rugby or Tennis programs please contact :

  • Ian Crook – Newington Director of Football, icrook@newington.nsw.edu.au
  • Ben Marion – Newington Director of Rugby, bmanion@newington.nsw.edu.au
  • Greg Royle – Director of Tennis, groyle@newington.nsw.edu.au

Finally, many congratulations to our Cross Country Team who competed at the IPSHA Cross Country Carnival late last term. Their team and individual performances were superb. Particularly well done to Bililign Robertson who ran second in his age division as well as Nicholas Venetoulis and Fletcher Jakes who also qualified for the CIS carnival.
