Artist of the Week

K-2 Artist of the Week

Kindergarten
Jude Davidson explored the idea of a bird’s next in his art work. He managed to draw and smudge a nest using sweeping chalk pastel lines. The finished work included 3 neatly drawn and coloured eggs.

Year 2
John Gardener persevered to complete a beautifully woven mat using collections of recycled material. He is to be commended on the fine motor skills needed in this work.

Years 3-6 Artist of the Week

Benjamin Leung (Year 5) created his “Goldminer” sculpture by making a posed wire armature (“skeleton”), covering it with paper padding and then layers of plaster bandages. He mounted it on a plastered cardboard base, then carefully painted his work with thick impasto acrylic paint. As you can imagine, this process took many weeks of dedicated effort!

James Arfanis (Year 5) created his “Goldminer” relief print after studying photographic images of miners from the 1800s. He sketched his subject then transferred the drawn image to a foam printing plate, redrawing his miner heavily into the foam and adding textural details to create interest and contrast. He printed his image repeatedly using black block printing ink on different coloured heavy construction papers.
