On Friday 13^th September, a selected group of Newington IPSHA debaters competed in the annual IPSHA Gala day, held by Ascham. The boys that competed were Daniel Carter, Luca Wong, Patrick Jones, Angus Thompson, Sam Walker, Nathan Chong lead proudly by the 2019 Debating Captain, Harry Alscher and our debating coaches Miss Dillon and Mr Borger. We debated two topics: ‘That students should write reports on their teachers’ and ‘That school sport should not be compulsory’. The Gala day was an opportunity to put our developing debating skills to the test, including our ability to rebut and think critically under pressure. We had a great day with two wins and one loss and debated with heart and a high level of Wyvern spirit. We have learned a lot from the experience and will always be grateful for having the chance to debate. We would like to thank Miss Dillon and Mr Borger for their coaching and guidance.
