Newington’s Anzac Day 2016
Newington’s Anzac Parade was held on the Johnson Oval on Wednesday 27 April before the whole school and many parents and Old Boys.
Stafford Lowe MBE (ON 1958) was Reviewing Officer and the commentary on the day was provided by Lieutenant Colonel John Moore AM RFD CFC Retd (ON 1953), who for many years has provided the commentary for ABC TV’s Anzac Day Broadcast.
This year the College revived an old tradition, whereby the Headmaster read out the names of The Fallen. Whilst Dr David Mulford read the names, 176 Year 12 boys installed white wooden crosses on the bank overlooking Johnson Oval representing Newington’s Fallen in the First and Second World Wars and the Vietnam War. The impact of the loss represented by our young men was lost on nobody.
Wreaths were also laid at the Memorial for the Dead in memory of Old Boys and staff that fought in all wars. In particular, a wreath was laid on behalf of the Millner Family to record the 80th Anniversary of the Memorial Drive, a gift of Col T G Millner MC VD (ON 1904) to the College and those families of WW1 Fallen.
Lest We Forget.
