Christmas Reflections
2 Corinthians 9:15:
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
This season approaching is often referred to as ‘The Season of Giving’. God’s great gift, his own Son, born to a humble family in less-than-humble situation, a run-down stable in a little town, amongst the animals. It was this reversal of greatness that turned fate of the world upside down. The lowly shepherds – outcasts in their own society – were the ones to first hear the news of the arrival of God’s great gift.
Unlike the wise men we hear of later, these poor men would have nothing to offer a coming king. Their gift to him? Their presence. They came to worship and see this newborn King who would be the Messiah, the saviour of the whole world.
I want to suggest that this Christmas, as we share gifts, and celebrate this wonderful time together, that the best gift we can bring is our presence. To be present with our families and share meaningful time together. It might even be a chance to enjoy God’s presence together, or to worship at church or in your own way. God has given us his amazing gift, our response might to enjoy his presence, his love and his grace, which came to be with us around 2000 years ago in a small town in Israel and is with us now and will be forever.
Enjoy the break, and God bless you.
